If it wasn’t for the 8-12 hours per week spent in a chemistry or biology lab during college, I might not have this obsession with ingredients and formulas.
For the past ten years or so, I’ve gradually eliminated foods and beauty products that contain chemicals and/or other harmful ingredients. The main reason why I decided to study biology in the first place was due to my fascination with how the body works on the cellular level. I’m fascinated with physiology of the human form and how often outside forces can disrupt our homeostasis. This interest has inspired me to learn as much as I can about how food additives can affect our internal systems and lead to future problems. I now use pure, organic oils and heat to clean my face. Harsh cleansers will only strip the face of natural oils, leading to an overproduction of oil and acne. Let’s “face” it. Our bodies were not intended to absorb chemicals that can alter our health at the cellular level.
Why the Caffeine?
Having used a caffeinated eye cream in the past (for its ability to reduce lines, dark circles and puffiness around the eyes), I thought it’d be fun to incorporate Deathwish coffee since it has such a caffeine level. Deathwish coffee is made from robusta coffee beans which are much higher in caffeine than arabica coffee beans. For this first batch, I infused the oil by heating the coffee mixture over low heat for 20 minutes. Next time I plan to heat for 1 hour to extract as much caffeine as possible.
